Legendary double bassist and composer Edgar Meyer and virtuoso mandolin player Mike Marshall are among the top instrumentalists of their kind. They’ve played with greats like Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thiele, and Bela Fleck and have been collaborating together for over 20 years. Over these past two decades, they have developed a fully realized concept of the mandolin/bass duo. As a solo classical bassist, Mr. Meyer has released a concerto album with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra featuring Bottesini’s Gran Duo with Joshua Bell, Meyer’s Double Concerto for Bass and Cello with Yo-Yo Ma, Bottesini’s Bass Concerto No. 2, and Meyer’s Concerto in D for Bass.

In addition to numerous collaborations with Mike Marshall, Meyers has worked with Béla Fleck, violinist Joshua Bell, Sam Bush, Yo-Yo Ma, and Mark O’Connor. The collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O’Connor to record Appalachia Waltz in 1996 soared to the top of the charts. This collaboration’s follow-up recording Appalachian Journey resulted in a Grammy Award.

Mike Marshall
A master on mandolin, guitar, mandocello and violin, Mike Marshall is known around the world as a versatile collaborator with numerous styles of music. Whether playing bluegrass with Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck or Chris Thile, Brazilian choro music with Hamilton de Holanda or Baroque classical with German mandolinist Caterina Lichenberg, Mike is able to swing gracefully between all of these musical styles with a unique blend of virtuosity, depth and musical integrity that is rare in the cross cultural musical world of today.
He joined the original David Grisman Quintet in 1978 and with this group, he toured and recorded with legendary jazz violinist Stephan Grappelli, Mark O’Connor, and guitarist Tony Rice. Mike Marshall and Edgar Meyer recorded to 2 CDs for the Sony Classical label—one with Bela Fleck and the other with violinist Joshua Bell and mandolinist Sam Bush. Both CD’s were nominated for GRAMMY awards.
